In line with this, here are what possibly could be the most important skills for recruitment consultants to have:

Salesy nature – To be a good recruitment consultant, you must be good at selling – You should be able to sell ice to eskimos. Within any recruitment process there are at least three sales cycles, these are, getting the vacancy from the client, getting interest from candidates and bringing clients and candidates together. You must be able to present all situations in the best possible lights and make everything seem positive.

Match maker – If you have previously set people up on blind dates, recruitment consultancy could be for you. Recruitment is all about putting people and companies together and finding people that match job roles. It is about finding the greatest solutions and pairing the greatest talent together.

Communication skills – To work within the recruitment industry you must be a great communicator – You must be able to speak with conviction, even when you don’t really know what you are talking about.  You must be a good communicator both in person, over the phone and through email. You must sound confident at all times and be incredibly friendly.

Positivity – To be a successful recruiter you must have a positive attitude.  Having a positive attitude can help recruiters a lot and can work to put clients and candidates in better moods also, making them more likely to agree with what you’re saying to them. Recruiters must not get put down by rejection and instead understand that for every yes they can, they are also going to get a few nos.

IT literate – Good recruiters are always tech savvy. They know their way around pcs, including email programs and Microsoft programs. With a lot of recruiting now taking place online, to be one of the best recruiters you must also have good knowledge of LinkedIn and other Social media platforms, as well as job boards/websites.
